thankful for a living Savior. thankful that i live a redeemed life. thankful that even when i stumble and fall and make a mess of things, Christ picks me up and showers me with love. thankful for His death. even more thankful for His resurrection.

to quote one of my favorite songs,
"my God is not dead. he's alive, he's alive!"
-Christ is Risen, Matt Maher

for i am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. -romans 8: 38-39

"Jesus said to her, 'I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; and whoever lives and believes in me will never die.'"
- John 11:25-26

in Christ alone, my hope is found. happy good friday.

be soft

be soft. do not let the world make you hard. do not let pain make you hate. do not let the bitterness steal your sweetness. take pride that even though the rest of the world may disagree, you still believe it to be a beautiful place.

listen to this song, but be prepared to pull out a map and plan a trip to somewhere in europe (or mexico or california).

follow me to

i saw this photo series on another blog and thought it was too sweet not to share. photographer murad osmann has an ongoing series called follow me to in which he travels the world with his girlfriend while she "leads him along" on their excursions. each photo is from the viewpoint of murad holding the hand of his girlfriend as she walks him towards the sites of each new city.

it's probably the soft, mushy heart i have, but i thought this was a really romantic way to capture not only gorgeous scenes from around the world but also the sweet relationship of a couple.

twenty eight and feeling great

Monday, March 18, 2013

{photo credit: me}

hello, my lovely bloggy readers! i have been a little distracted for the past two weeks with all of my birthday celebrating. i didn't make it to the blog very much, and i apologize for my absence. i'm going to try to remedy that this week with a bunch of fresh posts!

as i have mentioned before, all of this getting older crap freaks me out just a tad, but my 28th was a total dream. between my friends and family, i felt so special the entire day/week!

i was showered with so much love (and so many pressies) that i actually forgot i was adding another year to my life. i think that's going to be the game plan from now on-have so much fun that you forget about turning older!

thank you for all of the birthday wishes and sweet words! i appreciate it so much. year 28 is going to be a good one. i can feel it.

five things

Tuesday, March 12, 2013

{photo credit: me}

sweet brittany from created has tagged me to share a "five things" post. the pressure's on because her post was simultaneously sweet, witty, and serious. i can hardly be one of those things at a time, much less three. deep breath.

1. without my morning coffee i am one crabby patty. i don't drink it to wake myself up, i drink it because it's good. it's my morning habit/ritual/vice/addiction.

2. i'd rather listen to you than talk about myself. (it's true despite the fact that i have a blog where all i do is yammer on and on about myself).

3. i was born in sunny california. i will live there again one day. this will happen in one of two ways.
i will either meet and marry a nice, rich doctor. or (and this is probably more likely)
i will be poor and live in a tent on the beach.

4. when someone says "we should go on a road trip!" at first i'm all like "yeaaahhhh!" but then i start to worry about it because road trips with the wrong person is just bad news. if you want to find out if you are compatible with someone (a friend, a crush), go on a road trip with them. it will be the best/worst trip everrrrrr. like totally.

5. the last bite. hardly anything makes me more happy than someone giving me their last bite. especially if it's dessert. it's likely i will put them in my will after a gesture like that.

ok, well there you have it. now, i choose chelsea, jacqueline, laura, and shayla to post their own five things! c'mon ladies. show us what you're working with.

twenty eight

hold your breath and count to 28
change is slow but i feel it taking shape.
folding over is like waves
on origami ocean tides, we sway

like blueprints constantly being rearranged.
over microscopes we plan and strain.

the finest print in the whitest ink,
before it dries, there's no time to think.
it feels like everything we've known is sink or swim.

-sleeping at last

happy birthday to me!

this past year was all kinds of wonderful,
but i am ready to graduate to year twenty eight.
here we go, sink or swim!

xxoo, lacey

a beautiful mystery

“Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray. Is anyone cheerful? Let him sing praises. Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord; and the prayer offered in faith will restore the one who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up, and if he has committed sins, they will be forgiven him.” -James 5:13-15

We are commanded to pray. Prayer is the way we speak with God. We pour out our hearts with our desires and our sorrows, our pain and our joy. We plead for a miracle. We offer words of thanksgiving and praise. We cry when we can't form words. We sing when our joy is overwhelming.

We speak words into the air, and they hang there, suspended above us, floating toward heaven. I know He hears and listens to every word I speak, every word I think. I don't doubt that. My God is omniscient and omnipresent, and although my finite mind can barely concentrate on one conversation at a time, He is not limited by human frailties.

The part of the equation that I don't fully understand is exactly how the Lord answers my prayers. By praying, am I changing my circumstances or my attitude?

march mix

Saturday, March 2, 2013

{photo credit}

na na na na na na. they say it's my birthday! happy birthday to me!
yeah, kids. march heralds the world's greatest day second only to christmas. MY BIRTHDAY.

i will be 28 this year which makes me want to cry a little and celebrate a lot. i think our culture celebrates being young so much that getting older makes me feel like i'm not valued as much. it's all about being young and wild and free but hardly ever about being responsible and mature. or maybe i just browse through pinterest images too much. (you pinterest people know what i'm talking about i think).

that being said, i actually still feel very young and not all that "adult" most of the time. so, maybe i've got the best of both worlds? i have the wisdom of a mature 28 year old (ha!) and the attitude of a 22 year old.
a 22 year old who likes to be in bed by 10pm on weeknights, that is.

in celebration of my birthday, here is a compilation of some rocking good tunes. it may be my birthday month, but that doesn't mean i can't give you a gift.
